Dear Families

Thank you to our fantastic whānau community who have walked alongside us this year. Along with the children and staff, you too are the heartbeat of Holy Trinity and we salute you for the many ways you have supported us throughout the year to make it the success it has been, for all.  As we end this year, creating another slice of history with the ‘decapitation’ of our Year 7&8 area of the school to become a Year 0-6 contributing primary school in 2024, we can reflect with pride on all that has been achieved together. It has been wonderful to celebrate our achievements at the various end of year school events …  Student Leavers Mass, Cultural Group performances, Praise-giving and this coming week our End of Year School Mass and Family Picnic and Nativity Play.

We are filled with gratitude for the way you support with Language Weeks, Sports Events, Maori Whānau Hui, Pasifika Fono, Filipino and Indian/Sri Lankan family gatherings, Consultation and Workshop Evenings for families, Community Surveys, EOTC activities, Mufti Day activities, Board and PTFA meetings and activities, Learning at Home projects and concept learning etc – school is all about partnership and working together to enable the best opportunities for our children, so we are truly blessed with our school community and the significant contributions that you make to the daily life of our school.

We are very proud of you and are looking forward to all we can achieve together in 2024!

Finally …
May the promise of hope, peace, love and joy be with you this Christmas Season.
Wishing you all a Holy and Blessed Christmas and restful, relaxing and safe holidays!

Peta Lindstrom
Principal/Tumuaki

An Advent Prayer to share with family …

Lord, you wait for us to come and see you.
You wait to shine light where there is darkness,
to show love where there is hate,
to share peace where there is conflict.
Lord, you wait for us to come and see you.
You wait for us to remember what has been fulfilled,
to prepare for what must still be done.
You wait in hope and expectation, longing for us;
To shine your light,
To show your love,
To share your peace.
Amen (Christine Sine godspacelight.com)

From the School Board …

Greetings, Kia ora, Kia orana, Talofa, Mālō e lelei,  Namaste, Ni Hao, Bula, Hola, Kumusta, Namaskārām, Sat Shri Akaal, Vanakkam and Ayubowan

As another year draws to a close and indeed it has been another successful one, we should all look back and take pride in what has been achieved together as a school community.

Our school vision of “Ka Ako, Ka Aroha and Ka Manaaki in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”, continues to be a living reality and the foundation of our school on which all else is built.

Thank you to all our Holy Trinity whānau for your on-going support and involvement in the life of the school. Your commitment to doing the best for your children and their learning is appreciated.

School Leavers

With the decapitation from a full primary school to a Year 0 to Year 6 contributing school,  all our Year 6, 7 and 8 students are leaving us, as they move onto college, many to St Ignatius of Loyola, the new Catholic college in Drury.

A number of these students and their whānau have been part of the Holy Trinity learning community since the school opened seven years ago. These students and their families have played a significant part in shaping the life of the school from its very beginning.

On behalf of the school Board, I congratulate all those students in achieving a great milestone in their educational journey.

I want to thank all you students and your families for all that you have given to making Holy Trinity Catholic Primary School such a special place of learning, loving and serving. The sharing of your gifts and talents has been a blessing for us all.

THANK YOU for being the wonderful people you are and will continue to be. We wish you well as you move forward on the next part of your educational and faith journey.

Thank you to all our Staff

Holy Trinity is blessed to have a very dedicated principal, Miss Peta Lindstrom, who works tirelessly for all the students and their families. With a dedicated leadership team, teachers, learning assistants and other support staff, our school provides an excellent Catholic education for our students in our care. A BIG THANK YOU from the Board, for the time, thought and effort you put into your work and into the life of the school as a whole.

A special thank you to the three staff who are leaving us this year- Mrs Susan Champion in Learning Community Whenua, Mrs Raquel Biggar in Learning Community Ngahere and Miss Vincet Lautua, one of our learning assistants, who has been with our school since it opened in 2017. Thank you all for the significant contribution you have made to the learning and progress of the children in your care. Your work has been highly valued. We wish you well as you move onto new horizons. You will be missed by the Holy Trinity family.

Students’ Progress and Achievement

It is always encouraging to hear from our principal and leadership team at board meetings about the progress the students are making with their learning and their levels of achievement. The school board has a responsibility to ensure that the students can achieve their highest educational standard. This means that we need to staff the school with excellent teachers and learning assistants and provide the necessary resources for them to do the very best they can to support the students in their learning.

At a recent board meeting it was very pleasing to hear of the achievement standards in the three key areas of reading, writing and mathematics.

2023 End of Year Student Achievement Reporting:

READING: At and Above 83%        Below and Well Below 17%

WRITING: At and Above 81%         Below and Well Below 19%

MATHS:    At and Above 86%        Below and Well Below 14%

The staff are to also be congratulated for the excellent work they do in developing special programmes for those students who need additional support to progress their learning.

End of Year Events and Activities

The end of a school year is a busy time for schools and staff, as can be seen from the celebrations and school activities taking place.

  • Leavers’ Mass at St Mary’s Church
  • School assemblies and liturgies
  • Cultural Group Performances
  • Praise Giving Celebration
  • End of Year School Mass and Helpers Morning Tea
  • School Picnic Evening and Nativity Liturgy

Such celebrations take time to plan and organise. I would like to acknowledge and thank the staff, students, parents, PTFA  and Board who have been involved in these celebrations. Thank you to all our families for participating and supporting them.

Well done Holy Trinity- a beautiful expression of who we are as a school family!

On behalf of the Board, I wish you all a blessed, holy and safe Christmas and holiday season.

May God bless you all and continue to keep you in His care during this special time as we celebrate the birth of our Lord.

Ngā mihi o te Kirihimete me nga manaakitanga a to tatou Ariki ki a koutou katoa.

Philip Cortesi
Presiding Member of the Board.

DRS Report

End of Year School Mass

As the year comes to an end, we will gather together as a school family for an end of year Thanksgiving Mass in Taamaua/school hall on Tuesday 12th December 9:15am with Father Nathaniel Brazil of St Mary’s Papakura, as our celebrant. Tamariki and kaitiaki of Pompallier and Aubert Whānau will be leading our Mass as we celebrate another successful year and farewell our beautiful staff members who are leaving for new adventures. You are all invited to join us for this special time.

Season of Advent

Last Sunday, the liturgical season of Advent commenced. Advent is a season observed as a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. The term Advent means “coming” in latin. Many families will have an Advent Wreath at home where they light one candle each week in joyful and expectant hope of celebrating Christ’s Birth.

We too, can light a candle and in the silence of our hearts, name one thing that we can be more aware of this Advent Season, that will draw us more deeply into Christ’s light and love.

As we light our first and second purple candles which symbolise hope and faith, on the Advent Wreath, let us pray … ” Jesus you are light even in dark places, shine hope into our hearts we pray”

End of Year Staff Farewells

At the end of this school year, we farewell Mrs Susan Champion, Miss Vincet Lautua and Mrs Raquel Biggar. Thank you does not seem adequate enough to say to these wonderful staff members, for all that they have contributed to our school community these past years.

Susan is an exceptional and outstanding teacher and leader. She has been an absolute ‘champion’ for our new entrants and our families especially in the way she has settled our little ones into school – nurturing them as learners and smoothing the pathway for them as they begin their schooling life! Thank you Susan for all you have contributed to our school family as a senior leader, teacher/kaitiaki and colleague.

Vincet has been with us for 6 years and it has been a privilege to see her grow and develop into a confident and capable learning assistant during these years. We thank Vincet for her dedicated work, love and care of the students she has worked so closely with – supporting and guiding them in their daily life here at school.

We thank Raquel who has been with us this year, for her dedication to her teaching role, for the gifts and talents she has readily shared and for her leadership of the Year 7&8 students.

We thank Susan, Vincet and Raquel for the collaboration, engagement and relationships they have nurtured with us all and we wish them every blessing as they go on to seek new adventures!

We thank Mrs Kay Hey and Ms Rochelle Drollét who have worked with us as part-time teachers in Term 4 2023. We have very much valued and treasured their work with our students in Learning Community Whenua and their shared strengths as teaching practitioners.

WE DO SAY A “BIG THANK YOU” TO YOU ALL!

Digital Online Reporting

We are looking forward to sharing our term’s learning with our families including individual students’ achievement levels in reading, writing and maths.  Teachers/Kaitiaki and students have completed assessments and recording evidence of their progress and achievement to share with families through the HERO online parent portal. Reporting information will be published for families to access online from Monday 11th December. If you are unsure of how to access the HERO parent portal, please call in to the school office for support with accessing the link and setting up of a password.

We will not be holding Mahi Tahi Conferences this term. Teachers/kaitaki have been proactive in making contact with whānau of students who have been part of our target and accelerant learning groups so that we are able to report specifically on students’ individual goals progress and achievement over this term.

Enjoy reading through and sharing the HERO online reporting comments with your child/ren so that together you can celebrate learning successes and the positive personal growth and development that has occurred across the school year.

Cultural Celebration Event

The cultural performance evening was a vibrant showcase of excitement, colour and culture. The children performed with pride and mana, singing their hearts out and dancing with joy as their whānau watched proudly. This event exemplified ‘strengthening communities’ by celebrating the diverse cultures that enhance our school.

We express gratitude to our children, parent helpers and staff for their dedicated preparation. A big thank you to the supportive whānau who made the night special by being an amazing audience!

We are very proud of her achievements and sporting success and we wish her the very best for her future sporting endeavours.

Hauora/Well-Being News

Peer Mediation Programme

It is hard to believe we are coming to the end of our first year of the ‘Cool Schools Peer Mediation’ programme being at HTCPS! We celebrated this by having a fun shared lunch on Tuesday for our current Awhi Team members.

Our current and apprentice Awhi Team members are excited about what is coming up in 2024. We are looking forward to rolling out the peer mediation programme to all learners in the playground next year. Besides having more Awhi Team members out in the playground at break times, they will be working towards awards, and hopefully getting some projects underway that will further help make our playground and school a more peaceful place.

The kaitiaki will also keep teaching and reviewing the kaupapa in each learning community next year.

On behalf of the Awhi Team peer mediators, I wish you all a joyous Christmas and a relaxing and peaceful New Year.

Ms Gill
Awhi Team Coordinator

Learning Community News

Learning Community Whenua

In LC Whenua, the tamariki have started unpacking the stories leading to Jesus’ birth. They are able to share how the angel appeared to Mary and Joseph and the shepherds and that their first words were “ Do not be afraid”. They have been able to connect certain parts of their learning to the Rosary like ‘The Visitation’ and ‘The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple’.

To enhance their learning, the children have started recreating the Nativity using various art forms and are busy making a wall mural depicting the birth of Jesus. It has been wonderful for the children to connect all their learning and practice the Nativity with deeper understanding. They have been working hard on practicing the songs for the Nativity and the actions as well.

For Maths strand work we have been engaging in play based activities to facilitate the children’s understanding of ‘position’. An enjoyable way of engaging all the children has been musical chairs, magic box creations and obstacle courses.

As we wind down to the end of the year, the children will be engaging in craftwork, baking and music and dance. All these activities lend itself to strengthening community within Learning Community Whenua.

Learning Community Awa

In Learning Community Awa students have been practicing for their Nativity Play. They have learned that singing is praying too and that there are other stories before and after the birth of Jesus. It is awesome to hear our children reflect on the Christmas nativity story as well as confidently share ways we can pray for people during this festive period. They know that some people aren’t as fortunate as we are. Great job showing Arohanui-Copmpassion, Awa!

Awa learners have also enjoyed many reading and writing revision lessons. Learners have been extremely hands-on and measuring for maths learning has been a favourite of many. Children have enjoyed taking part in different art forms, and nativity-themed paintings and drawings have been welcomed by the children.

Learning Community Moana

Learning Community Moana has been learning all about the special message of Christmas and the different ways the message of Jesus’ birth is shared. We looked at the significance of The Nativity in the Bible and we enjoyed watching ‘The Star’, which told the story of Jesus’ birth from the animals’ perspective. We are working towards sharing the message of Jesus’ birth with others in creative ways. This week we got crafty and created Nativity candle jars, stained glass windows and used the magic box to create the Nativity scene!

Learning Community Maunga

We have had an amazing, jam packed and incredibly busy two weeks as we head towards the end of term. WOW! The learning community students have written heaps of Learning Wall reflections, the Year 6 learners have been practicing for the Leavers Mass, End of Year Mass and upcoming liturgies, the Year 5 learners have been continuing their learning as we head into Advent and, before we know it, it will be time to acknowledge the greatest birthday ever – Jesus’.

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves! There is change in the air and we are all reflecting on the events of the last seven years as we think of our Year 6 leavers. We celebrated this with a shared lunch together. Thank you to the generosity of our parents and whānau. After that brief interlude, we are continuing our learning, completing tasks and counting down the days.

Ms Gill’s literacy group has been practising writing texts for different audiences. They have shared their cultural stories in a book that will be gifted to the Year 0/1s in LC Whenua. Some of the learners have been reading their stories to their young audience. LC Whenua loved having the senior students read to them and share a part of their culture and this has helped ‘strengthen our school community’.

Learning Community Ngahere

Ngahere students are busy finalising their reflections for the goals that they have been working on this term. Preparations for our Praise-giving Liturgy and End of Year School Mass are all underway this week. We will also be starting Advent activities this week.
